David Rubinstein and Copland

In 1977 NASA launched into deep space a recording of some of the greatest classical compositions. In celebration of that historic voyage, David Rubinstein performed three timeless classics by Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, as well as the Fanfare for the Common Man by Copland.

With a wide range of repertoire from Beethoven and Chopin to the present, David Rubinstein has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe with recent appearances including the Norton Simon Museum, The Smithsonian, Zipper Hall, the National Gallery of Art, London's Wigmore Hall, Lincoln Center, the Dame Myra Hess Series in Chicago, and numerous international radio broadcasts. His piano transcription of Holst's The Planets has been hailed as a tour de force, with over 100,000 YouTube views, and currently is the only recording of the entire solo piano transcription of The Planets.

David Rubinstein was born in New York City. Early family influences were varied - classical music, painting, klezmer, jazz, musical theater, film music and of course, piano. At the age of six he became a student of the Russian pianist George Kochevitsky, with later teachers including Claudio Arrau and William Masselos.  Notable appearances include all-Chopin recitals in Poland (Chopin Society), the Symphony Space, the Long Island Beethoven Festival and American Landmark Festivals (the complete piano works of Copland and the four MacDowell piano sonatas). His first recording for Musical Heritage Society (1971) featured the world premiere of the Sibelius Piano Sonata which received immediate acclaim. His other numerous recordings have been critically acclaimed and appear on the playlists of major broadcasting and streaming services worldwide.

Orchestral appearances have included the Cal State L.A. Baroque Ensemble (Bach concertos), Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (Mozart concertos), Berkshire Symphony (Beethoven concertos), Hartford Symphony (world premiere of his One-Note Concerto), Westlake Festival Orchestra, South Bend Symphony, Midwest Pops Orchestra, Hudson Symphony, the Hilversum Radio Orchestra (Holland).

His work as a pianist has included recording sessions for every major studio in Hollywood. His own compositions  have been presented by the National Association of Composers USA and the Pacific Composers Forum, winning major awards from the Renée Fisher Piano Competition and the Ojai Festival-Gould Foundation.
